It’s a festival lineup that may have Generation X jostling in line (online?) Friday morning for tickets to this year’s #PembyFest with thoughts of throwing off the soccer mom shorts in favour of an outfit more worthy of an old school Pearl Jam fan.
Or maybe it’ll be the idea of rocking out to Billy Idol that will have Gen Xers pulling out that credit card and dialing (ahem) up the (old) posse to see if they can get away for one last blast-from-the-past before their soon-to-be teens tell them they’re way too old to be going to a music fest.
The 2016 lineup for the Pemberton Music Festival was announced yesterday and it didn’t take long for the media to jump on the choice of headliner. Pearl Jam formed in 1990, which puts anyone who was under twenty-five at that time somewhere in their forties.
Billy Idol goes back even further, hitting his hey-day in the mid-eighties. Then there’s Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg, not exactly spring chickens.
Or how about Thievery Corporation and Mark Farina for some good old-fashioned house music to get you in the mood to stay up all night in the campground with your twenty-something neighbours?
If that’s not enough to get you away from your backyard barbeque, they’ve even got Cheech and Chong headlining the Pemby Comedy bill. And here we thought their act went up in smoke years ago.
Something for everyone, even the under 40 set
Now if you’re reading this and you’re actually under 40, don’t despair just yet.
Besides some old-school names on the roster there’s also a lot of young talent, including Canadian acts such as the Wintersleep, Funk Hunters, The Zolas, Jesse Roper, and Wolf Parade.
Plus Miguel, Die Antwood, LIDO, and FKA Twigs, who was happily born in 1988.
According to A.J. Niland of Huka Entertainment, which produces the festival – there’s something for everyone.
“The lineup carries on our tradition of diversity and depth.”
In total, 78 musical acts and 18 comedy acts were announced yesterday.
