In the shadow of an investigation into real estate practices, the Real Estate Council of BC is reminding those in the profession they have an obligation to report wrongdoing.
Council Professional Standards Advisor Maureen Coleman says licensees have a responsibility to maintain the confidence of the public.
So what if a realtor doesn’t report misconduct?
“Well depending on how egregious the outcome was for a consumer we do have the ability to discipline. We did a quick survey, nothing to scientific, and we do find records of the council having disciplined under those two sections previously.”
What are the consequences?
“Our discipline can range anywhere from a reprimand, to a fine, to a suspension, to a cancellation.”
Coleman says they are waiting for an interim report this Friday into shadow flipping and other real estate wrongdoings from the Independent Advisory group struck to investigate
