Do you want to have more of a say in the way democracy works in the City of Vancouver? Now is your chance.
The city is looking for more applications from people who would like to participate in its Election Task Force.
The city’s looking for a larger pool of people to choose from and is extending its deadline for applications to the task force by a week.
Council has approved developing a strategy and work plan to bring-in reforms to the way the city runs its municipal elections.
Some of the ideas being tossed around: taking action on campaign finance reform and investigating an extension of voting rights to permanent residents.
The task force has been asked to come up with a final report by December.
Task Force Eligibility Requirements
- Strong knowledge of the principles of democracy, effective operation of democratic institutions, and best practices regarding electoral systems and reform.
- Experience in developing strategies and work plans and achieving success within a political environment.
- Knowledge of the organization and operation of key provincial ministries.
- No affiliation with a political party in the City of Vancouver for the past four elections and has not been a City Vancouver municipal candidate in any of the past four elections.
