Does Vancouver need more ice rinks?
One park board commissioner wants staff to look into it.
In a motion before the park board, Erin Shum says only three of the city’s eight ice rinks operate year-round; Britannia Rink, Hillcrest Rink, and Sunset Rink.
The other five, West End, Kitsilano, Kerrisdale, Trout Lake, and Killarney only operate seasonally.
She says the limited supply of ice is insufficient to meet the “current and future needs for recreational and other sport and fitness purposes.”
Shum’s motion suggests the board develop an Ice Rink Strategy for Vancouver and direct staff to report back by the fall.
