A coroner’s jury has made 16 recommendations after hearing the case of Mehrdad Bayrami.
He was the 48-year-old man gunned down by police in a standoff near the Starlight Casino in New Westminster in 2012.
The recommendations focus on improve access to mental health services such as those for depression, and setting up provincial standards for emergency response teams.
The jury also recommends those teams retain psychologists to support police negotiators during standoffs.
The inquest heard Bayrami had been depressed and involved in a domestic dispute with his ex-partner.
