Plenty of discussion at the Big City Mayors’ Cacus in Ottawa focused on how and when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will deliver promised money on infrastructure projects, but no major announcements.
The Liberals have promised $6 billion over the next 10 years.
Trudeau says the government wants to take its time before handing out the cash, as they’re restarting a relationship with municipalities that had been neglected in the past.
“Ensuring that we get the money flowing in a responsible and rapid way is a priority for all of us, and that’s where our ministers – including and especially (Infrastructure) Minister (Amarjeet) Sohi has had extensive meetings both one on one and with them as a group.”
Trudeau adds their investment in communities aims to create short-term jobs, as well as economic growth in the medium- and long-term.
