It’s a powerful opioid packing more punch than fentanyl. It was found after a drug bust in Alberta last summer. Could it make its way to B.C.?
It’s called W-18, and Calgary Police have found it in three of 110 fentanyl pills they seized.
W-18 is 100 times more potent than fentanyl, and 10,000 times more powerful than morphine.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Vermeulen says BC RCMP are aware of the drug, adding “it’s likely just a matter of time before it shows up.”
More than 450 people died of a drug overdose last year in B.C. Fentanyl was detected in just under a third of those cases.
