Apple working on charging your phone wirelessly
I don’t know how many times a week someone walks by my desk and asks if I have an iPhone charger but it feels like a lot. There is always that hint of panic in their voice, like they are saying “WHAT AM I GOING TO DO IF MY PHONE DIES??!!?!?”. Maybe it’s not that extreme, but since we are all so attached to our smartphones keeping them charged is obviously important, I mean how are you supposed to share that picture of your lunch on Instagram if your phone is dead?
Change is coming my friends.
Apple has been working on a technology to wirelessly charge your iPhone or iPad that could be available as soon as next year. There are phones on the market right now that you can charge on a charging pad, so there are no wires attached to your phone, but it does need to be resting on the charging pad. What Apple is working on is a charging system that would work with your Mac, where the computer would be the charging hub and your phone would just need to be within 39 inches (just over 3 feet) still a defined area but it is pushing the boundaries. If you work at a desk with a Mac, that would basically mean your entire desk area would be your charging station!
Google looking to get into the smartphone hardware market
If you have any kind of phone that isn’t an iPhone it is more than likely running some version of the Android software. Android software is a Google property and is used by over a billion people. The OS is free to install on any device, and the different cell-phone manufacturers all make their own tweaks to it. The issue with this is that it gives Google very little control over it, and so there is a lack of uniformity to the Google experience. Think of all your Apple products, your iPhone works with your iPad, with your Mac, and with your Apple TV, they all have a similar interface and they all work together. You can’t say that about all of the Google stuff out there, and with the amount of money Apple makes off their iPhone is was only a matter of time before their was a real Google phone (Gphone? Phoogle? I dunno) So Google is now looking into creating their own hardware with a streamlined Android experience, there have been other Google phones in the past, the Nexus phone, but those were all made by other companies (LG and Huawei made the last two) Google controlling both the software and the hardware could be a real challenge to Apple’s smartphone dominance.
