Eviction notices have been handed out at one of the parks in Abbotsford where homeless people have been camped out.
The city just passed a new set of bylaws that allow the homeless to sleep in public parks — but just overnight.
“There’s actually two notices that I believe went out. One was for the Gladys camp. The other one is one Cyril Street, which is right across the street. That one was is city land, which means that they have to take down their tents at 9 a.m.” says Mayor Henry Braun.
Last fall, the B.C. Supreme Court ruled homeless people have the right to sleep overnight in city parks if no shelter spots are available.
