We’re learning more about Vancouver’s first homicide of 2016.
The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Christopher Denis Kwik, who was found dead in an apartment on Granville Street, just off of Broadway late last night.
Constable Brian Montague with the Vancouver Police Department says Kwik was known to the force.
“He’s not a resident of the building, he’s not a resident of the apartment. He is someone that has had some minor contact with the police, he was scheduled to appear in court for an incident that occurred last year for possession for the purpose of trafficking.”
Montague says police believe the attack to be targeted, but say much about the incident remains unclear.
“And again, it’s just way to early to determine motive, whether drug activity was the motivation behind this attack or whether it was something completely different.”
Police were called to the unit just before 11pm to reports of gunfire.
No word yet on any suspects.
