A new poll by Insights West says half of Metro Vancouverites support the new Massey Tunnel replacement project.
However, spokesperson Mario Canseco says paying for it is another story.
“When you ask drivers who should pay for the transit project, they say ‘hike some of the transit costs, and make those transit users pay higher fares.’ When you ask transit users, they say the answer is a vehicle levy – ‘let’s make those drivers pay a little bit more to be on the road.’ Everyone’s essentially passing the buck to each other.”
The poll comes as B.C.’s Transportation Ministry is in the midst of consultations with the public about the replacement project.
The second night of open houses for the new $3.5 billion dollar bridge is slated for Wednesday afternoon.
