Richmond RCMP are finally talking about the United Airlines flight bound for Denver diverted to Vancouver Airport today but they aren’t saying very much.
Corporal Dennis Hwang says flight 1104 staff notified police early this morning.
Hwang says a man was arrested on the plane without incident.
As for specifics.
“With any type of matters now involving air safety it is something where we take any kind of those concerns very seriously. We had information from the flight crew aborad United Airlines flight 1104 that there was a security concern for them and that became a security concern for us.
Reporter “Okay but you can’t provide any information about what kind of security concern that might be.”
“No I cannot.”
When asked again Hwang would only say it was a serious matter.
“All I can say is that this flight was not destined to land in Canada for them to be concerned enough to divert their flight means we take it very seriously.”
Hwang also wouldn’t say what charges the man they arrested may or may not face.
“That is what we are looking into now. We are continuing our investigation. We are trying to gather as much evidence as we can if we are going with a criminal charge.”
He does call this an isolated incident.
Passengers say police entered the plane with guns drawn.
Those passengers were re-booked to get to their destinations.
