A judicial inquiry has been called for a judge who once asked a 19-year-old woman, “Why couldn’t you just keep your knees together?”
The Canadian Judicial Council will look into the actions of Justice Robin Camp in Alberta, after he received national attention for questions he asked a sexual assault complainant.
It happened during a 2014 case when Camp was a provincial court judge. The young woman had accused a Calgary man of sexually assaulting her during a house party.
The hearing comes at the request of Alberta’s attorney general, and is typically public.
The inquiry committee can recommend the removal of a judge from office, but that can only actually happen by a Joint resolution of parliament.
