The B.C. Coroner’s service has identified the man who died after he fell into the frozen Kettle River.
54-year-old Grand Forks native Thomas Charles Grubisic was seen in the river, gripping onto the edge of the ice last week.
RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says officers got the call and rushed to the scene, but by the time they arrived, he had vanished.
“From a witness account, they were quite alarmed and mortified when they saw the man fall through the ice.”
The Coroners Service says based on tracks in the snow, he appears to have been trying to walk across the frozen river in an area just south of Highway 3.
Search and Rescue and a police dive team recovered Grubisic’s body from the water the following day.
The Coroners Service says it is continuing to investigate along with the RCMP.
