Nearly 70,000 travellers are expected to pass through Vancouver International Airport today.
Among them are three Syrian refugee families.
Their plane was delayed for more than an hour, but that’s nothing compared to the year this one Armenian-Syrian family waited to get out of war-ravaged Aleppo.
Relief and joy
Mother Alina says she is relieved to be in Canada.
“We were imaging this moment for a long time. I mean, it’s not easy to be in war and all that rockets just falling down on our buildings. You just hide in the basement waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not easy.”
This family is one of 30 the St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church hopes to sponsor in the coming weeks.
