After six months of being locked out, BCAA employees will soon be back on the job.
Move Up president David Black says the labour dispute has ended.
“Well I am happy to announce our members have just ratified the mediators proposals to end the lock out at BCAA and they will be going back to work next week.”
Black is not sure what changed in what was until recently a bitter stand off.
“Something changed on BCAA’s side I would imagine. We were talking just two weeks ago about a package that was not going to be acceptable by a long shot. Then, it was about the same time as (CEO Paul) Healey left that the mediator suddenly came back with another package that our members have voted to accept.”
As for the ratification vote.
“It was fairly close. A clear majority did ratify it. I think that there were and there are a lot of hard feelings with those workers.”
Black says the new deal means wage hikes and better working hours for 70 affected emergency roadside assistance workers.
