The Attorney General of Canada is going after a Surrey man who admitted to a demolition derby crime spree- destroying six Burnaby RCMP cruisers two years ago.
38-year-old Joseph Field pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 22 months in jail, after he stole a rental truck and ran over six parked police cars near the Burnaby RCMP community policing office.
The damage was so extensive, a police spokesperson described it at the time as being “out of a movie.”
Now the Attorney General of Canada is suing Field for negligence.
The suit claims Field drove both a stolen jeep and the stolen truck “recklessly and carelessly,” smashing them into the cruisers.
Wal-Mart and Ryder Truck Rental are also named in the suit.
It alleges Field was able to steal the five-tonne truck because a Wal-Mart employee left the keys in the ignition.
Wal-Mart has not responded to a request for comment.
None of the civil allegations have been proven in court.
