As another young person in the care of the Ministry of Children and Families takes their own life, a Vancouver-based charity is urging the public to buy a Christmas Tree to help make a difference.
Sarah Stewart with Aunt Leah’s Place calls it another tragedy, after Port Alberni teen Daniel Francis died in care.
“Our condolences go out to his family.”
The charity, which supports B.C. teens in foster care, is hoping to raise $100,000 by selling Christmas trees.
“We have four lots and the profits from the sales go to support our mission and our mandate, which is to work with these young kids.”
Stewart calls it a “multiple systems failure” as the number of young people dying in care continues to raise.
