Tenants of a Downtown Eastside SRO say they hope it’s the last time they’ll have to endure this conditions.
People living at the Lion Hotel on Powell Street had been without heat and hot water for weeks.
The city had ordered the owner to make repairs within 60 days, or its staff would step in and send him the bill.
Officials say Tuesday the systems were mostly back up and running. But tenants told CKNW that was still not the case — they still had only cold water and cold air.
So, the city an inspector on Wednesday and found the problems still there.
They say tenants need to alert the city about these problems by calling 311.
Lion Hotel resident Kelly Jons says he didn’t even know such a service existed.
“I think a lot more people need to be aware of that. They’re going to have to have that cooperation, otherwise it’s going to keep coming up.”
Jons says this near month-long debacle has also been a learning experience, and hopes it’ll bridge the gap between SRO tenants and city staff.
