The photo of Alan Kurdi, the three year old Syrian boy whose photo changed the conversation for the refugee crisis in Canada, is hard to forget.
Now his family – also escaping devastation in Syria – is coming to Canada.
Tima Kurdi, Alan’s aunt, says his uncle Mohammed will soon make his way to Vancouver, joined by his wife and five children.
In a statement to CKNW, Citizenship and Immigration Canada confirmed this, saying they have communicated with the Kurdi family and their application is “proceeding well.”
They also say all applications and sponsorships are being processed on a priority basis, and that they have sent additional immigration officers to speed up the processing of cases.
Meanwhile, Tima Kurdi says Alan’s father has chosen not to come to Canada.
