A Coquitlam woman who helped co-sponsor a Syrian family months ago has plans to sponsor more — with another wave of refugees heading to B.C.
“When you know that you’ve changed peoples’ lives forever, it’s very powerful.”
Iris Challoner is the refugee coordinator with Eagle Ridge United Church and with the group Humanity 4 Syrians.
The Immigrant Services Society of BC and a few municipalities are urging people to help house refugees, and Challoner says many are stepping up.
“We’re being contacted by many people who are offering their homes, opening their hearts to these refugees, and financial support.”
She adds it’s not that hard to take someone in, saying new families simply need a friend to help them get used to their new life in B.C.
