Do we have our kids in an achievement race that they are destined to lose?
Simi Sara guest-hosted the Jon McComb Show today, and spoke with Vicki Abeles about her new documentary, Race to Nowhere: Transforming Education From The Ground Up.
Abeles is a filmmaker, an ex-Wall Street lawyer, and a mother of three. Her first documentary takes a hard look at the negative health impacts of pushing our children too hard when it comes to their education in a system which may be fundamentally flawed.
“[It’s] an epidemic of over tested, over scheduled, over pressured young people trying to manage and extreme.”
Too much homework, too many tests, too much needless pressure. That, says Abeles, has our kids in an achievement race which is bad for their health, and counter-productive to learning.
“I don’t think the current way that we’re approaching education in childhood is actually leading to the outcomes that most of want as parents.”
