A Nelson Police officer won’t be spending any time behind bars, after being found guilty of using excessive force during an arrest last year.
Constable Drew Turner has been handed a 30-day conditional sentence and 12 months probation, for his actions during the arrest of Tawny Campbell.
Another officer was trying to arrest the drunk 107-pound woman in May of 2014 when he called in for help…
An off-duty Turner came to assist, punching Campbell in the face, knocking her unconscious.
Nelson’s Police Chief Wayne Holland says he accepts the sentence, but isn’t commenting on his officer’s future with the force because a Police Act investigation is also underway.
