As the first phase of cracking down on illegal marijuana dispensaries draws to a close, one Vancouver City Councillor says the end can’t come soon enough.
City Councillor Geoff Meggs says this process has been a big distraction to city staff.
Meggs says he hopes with a change of government in Ottawa, a more systematic approach to drug laws can be put in place, but says the current process put in place by the city will definitely cut down on the number of dispensaries allowed to operate in Vancouver.
“There’s a number of locations where two or three shops are near by each other, that’s not going to fly either. So the sorting has begun, let’s not speculate how many will make it through but it will be a relatively small number.”
Meggs says he believes the entire process will wrap up early in the new year.
