BC’s Auditor General for Local Government says overall, the City of Surrey has done a good job balancing both a budget, and fighting crime, as it deals with a large RCMP force.
The Auditor stresses one big takeaway: ALWAYS keep an eye on overtime.
And if certain overtime drivers are always popping up, seek to eradicate them.
The report says Surrey RCMP are making good use of new technology to be more efficient.
The city has made smart use of Community Safety Officers, less expensive members of the detachment.
Court duties and other non-policing work has also been handed over to lower paid civilian staffers, freeing up RCMP to do police work.
