Nine months, to be served in the community, and a one year driving prohibition.
That’s the sentence handed down in Provincial Court in Surrey, after two women were run down in a South Surrey crosswalk in December of 2012.
Fifty-six year old Barry Christiansen told police at the time of the crash he didn’t know what happened.
His lawyer says he panicked and then left the scene.
Shelly Lammers and Nola Carlson suffered extensive injuries.
Carlson is relieved it is all over.
“It’s been a long road, and it will continue to be a long road and for me, personally, I can say that it’s very bumpy.”
The judge told the court Christiansen’s conduct was out of character, but at the same time he failed in his legal and moral duty to identify himself at the accident scene and offer help.
