It’s already been almost four years since Maple Batalia, the 19-year-old SFU student, was gunned down in the campus parking lot.
Friends and family are honoring her life this weekend, while denouncing lengthy court delays, as the accused have yet to stand trial.
“On 28th of September it will be four years, and no signs of justice. The culprits keep in changing lawyers, and the judge keeps giving them more time,” says father Harkirat Batalia.
Loved ones are holding three days of prayers at a local temple to mark the anniversary of her death.
Gurjinder Singh Dhaliwal, charged with first-degree murder, and Gursimar Bedi, charged with manslaughter, are expected to stand trial early next year.
This week, Bedi was handed a 12-month conditional sentence after he admitted selling cocaine to an undercover cop in Surrey in 2012.
