A public inquest will be held into the death of a man who was fatally shot in a police standoff at the Starlight Casino nearly three years ago.
Jordan MacWilliams says he had a “reasonable fear” Mehrdad Bayrami would fire his gun that night in 2012, which prompted the Emergency Response Team officer to fire his own weapon.
Bayrami was locked into a five-hour standoff with police after getting into an altercation with his ex-girlfriend.
His daughter, Nousha, currently involved in a lawsuit against MacWilliams and the Corporation of Delta, maintains her father was shot in the back.
Next February, a coroner and jury will hear from witnesses with an opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
