Vancouver Police say it was thanks to a coffee break that a man who allegedly stole a van was caught by police.
At about 6 :00 AM on Monday, September 21st, a driver stopped his van on Robson Street near Homer to make a delivery to a business.
A man jumped in and drove away – the driver chasing after him.
Within minutes of the vehicle being reported stolen, VPD officers starting their shift saw the van driving past VPD headquarters on Cambie.
The alleged thief hopped out of the van and walked into a coffee shop at the end of the block.
Police then entered the shop and arrested the man.
Fifty-five year old Brian Ross Phillips has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
He’ll make a court appearance on September 30th.
