The Independent Investigations Office is on scene at a basement suite of a home in Burnaby after a police-involved shooting earlier today.
It happened in the 3800-block of Frances Street just after 7:00 a.m.
The Independent Investigations Office says one male victim was shot by another male suspect and later pronounced dead.
Shortly after, police made a failed attempt tonegotiate with the suspect before entering the home.
Shots were fired, and the male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The upstairs tenant was evacuated safely.
According to nearby resident Laurie Staples, esidents in the area were told by officers not to leave their homes as the scene unfolded this morning.
“So apparently someone heard a girl scream, and some guy swearing, and then a few shots. And they’ve got the streets blocked from Union and Frances to Georgia Street near Boundary – all the way to Boundary. And no one is allowed to leave their homes. Looks like some activity going on but we’re not really sure.”
IHIT is also investigating the scene along with the IIO.
