RCMP have confirmed they are investigating the life and death of a young aboriginal woman in the Downtown Eastside.
The story of 19-year old Paige made headlines when it was learned she suffered a life of domestic violence, neglect, and abandonment, with little help from front-line workers.
In a statement, RCMP say they are conducting an investigation into allegations raised regarding Paige, and while the scope of the investigation hasn’t been determined, will complete a thorough examination.
Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, B.C.’s Representative for Children and Youth wrote the report and says she welcomes the investigation and hopes it is investigated thoroughly
“There’s a range of people who engaged with her and did not report, and I would hope that any investigation undertaken would look at all of those instances, and move forward to carefully consider whether the laws of British Columbia were followed.”
Vancouver Coastal Health has refused comment, but the Ministry of Children and Family Development says it will co-operate fully with police.
