Imagine not knowing who took your loved one’s life, or why, for almost a decade. It’s the sad reality one Port Alberni family has been living with, until now.
Police are expected to announce charges in the 2006 homicide of 28-year-old Kristy Morrey.
Court records show her ex-boyfriend, Larry Darling, appeared before a justice of the peace last week, accused on one count of murder committed on the same day Morrey was found dead in the same town.
She was described as a loving daughter, an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed camping and fishing.
Darling was a suspect for years, but later cleared.
On the third anniversary of the young woman’s death, Cpl. Darren Lagan with the Major Crime Unit, promised investigators would crack the case, either “through advances in forensic technology, or new information from the public.”
Darling makes his next court appearance on Wednesday.
