Is it open or is it closed? After a confusing couple of hours officials at the PNE say the park will in fact stay open for the rest of the day.
In a bid to draw crowds despite the storm, the fair had offered free admission this morning.
But by early afternoon dangerously high winds forced them to shut down 75% of the rides, then close the park outright.
Then, just an hour later, the gates were re-opened.
Spokesperson Laura Ballance says the move came after Environment Canada told them they were downgrading the wind warning.
“Which is great news for the entire region in light of this today, we are going to be extending our free gate all day today. It was supposed to end at one o’clock so we’re going to extend that for the balance of the day.”
Ballance says the planned Tom Cochrane and Red Rider concert will also go ahead.
“Obviously we’ve got a fairgrounds full of people that are enjoying their day. And we’re thrilled with the update,” said Ballance.
But one guest who’d already made it halfway home says that’s not good enough.
“Maybe open on Monday instead of being closed, and make it a free day.”
Admission will be free again tomorrow from 11-1pm
