You will soon be able to book a ride by phone, but without making a call.
Local car service company, “Ripe Rides,” will soon be launching–allowing customers to request a car to pick them up via their new app.
“What’s been known in the market for a long time as kind of the black car service, which is kind of the limousine service, more of a luxury, but giving it kind of that digital dispatch and point to point, not on an hourly rate, but on time and distance.”
Co-founder Otis Perrick says they faced push back from the taxi industry, but they are now fully licensed to run in the city.
“People are scared of change, and I think a lot of the people that are running both within the limo industry and specifically within the taxi industry, don’t understand technology and didn’t understand what we were applying for.”
Perrick’s fleet of black Cadillac’s will hit the road in October, with a ride from downtown Vancouver to YVR running you about $61.00.
