A year after the ice bucket challenge hit Canada, the head of the ALS Society of BC says the money has poured in.
But Wendy Toyer says it’s just a drop in the bucket on the way to the ultimate goal: finding a cure.
Canada usually collects $4 million to $5 million every year for the cause.
But last year, with the challenge, more than 350,000 people donated $17 million, on top of which they received a $10 million grant.
“$11.5 million has already been directed to ALS research and by October this year, there’ll be another $12.9 million.”
They’re asking people to keep the momentum going and continue doing the challenge of filming yourself pouring a bucket of ice water over your head, and posting it online.
