A Vancouver mother wants to remind other parents their child should be in a car seat while in a taxi.
Andrea McDougall says she, her husband and her 18-month-old son recently hailed a cab at the Greyhound station.
As she was setting up the car seat, she says the driver told her to just carry her son because he was in a hurry.
“He was like, ‘Well, I’m on a timer and it’d be faster.’ And I said, ‘I know, I still prefer to have my son in his car seat.’ And then it ended there.”
McDougall says she complained to the company, Vancouver Taxi, when she got home, but was told that was their policy.
Cab drivers ARE exempt in BC from having children restrained.
The company has not yet responded to CKNW’s request for comment, but it has reportedly acknowledged its policy DOES require car seats, and the driver made a mistake.
Either way, McDougall says a child should never be put at risk just because someone is in a rush.
