A board member of the Vancouver Pride Society is handing in his resignation saying the playing field for all political parties isn’t even for participating in this year’s parade…
Tim Ell says though the society is clearly political, he can’t support what he sees as taking sides…
“It’s become clear over the last few days that there’s two sets of standards being applied to different political parties in regard to the trans equality now pledge.”
Pride Society President Tim Richards says what they are asking for is for the same standards from everyone.
“If you are another type of organization, you’re filling in the form you’re saying, ‘hey, this is the organization, I can sign on behalf of that organization. Here’s my signature. I am pledging support for human rights.'”
Last week the society said said to walk in the parade politicians AND their party had to sign the pledge to include trans and gender variant people in the human rights code.
This effectively ousts the BC Liberals because the party is refusing to sign saying the code already protects everyone.
