As many people are lamenting a low Canadian dollar, the BC Film industry is jumping for joy…
Head of the North Shore Studios, Peter Leitch, says his industry is seeing a boom.
In the last fiscal year they’ve hit 2 billion dollars in production expenditures, up from 1.45 billion the previous fiscal year.
“You know, we’re building right now. This is good news. I think a lot of the facilities are expanding and the visual effects companies and the animation companies are expanding. That’s what happens in good times.”
Jobs Minister Shirley Bond says even with the dollar sitting at the lowest level in a decade, the government is not looking at cutting or minimizing tax breaks to entice productions to film here.
In fact, the government has just opened a film and television office in Los Angeles – at a cost of $175,000 a year – to promote what BC has to offer.
