As we count down to tonight’s fireworks display, Vancouver Police are gearing up for one of their busiest nights of the year.
VPD Constable Brian Montague says hundreds of officers will be on hand – and they’ll be actively looking for troublemakers.
“The majority of our problems are alcohol fueled disturbances and fights. And by preventing those individuals and the alcohol from coming down, we not only prevent those disturbances, but we also prevent things like assaults, stabbings, sexual assaults.”
Montague says they’re expecting a crowd of about 300,000.
He says officers will help enforce the smoking ban – and anyone caught lighting up or drinking could be looking at a hefty fine.
Below is a list of road closures for the event.
