A Canadian man is dead after a violent home invasion in Panama.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed the incident in an e-mailed statement and are offering consular support to the victim’s family.
While he wasn’t identified, friends of the man reported on social media he was from Port Alberni.
Local media says three armed men entered his home in Boquete – 500 kilometres east of Panama City – where the 53-year-old was shot in his home in the abdomen while his wife and mother-in-law were tied up with computer cables.
The suspects made off with computers and the family’s vehicle, but the car has since been located.
