Good news for people out of their homes due to the Westside road wildfire, they are now allowed to return home.
Fire Information Officer Jordan Turner says thanks to cooler weather and some containment the situation is much improved.
“The favourable conditions have allowed our crews to establish containment on the East flank of the fire above the properties on Westside road. The overall containment we are estimating at 25-percent right now. Because this containment has been put in place above the properties the Okanagan Regional District has downgraded the evacuation order for residents in the area to an evacuation alert.”
However Turner says the fire has still grown.
“There has been some growth in he Southwest flank of the fire but that new growth is not threatening any structures or communities. The fire size is now estimated at 560 hectares. BC wildfire service crews were supported by heavy equipment overnight working to establish control lines in that area. ”
Evacuation orders were also downgraded to alerts in the Bolean Lake fire in Falkland.
