A Vancouver city councillor’s efforts to reform donations to election campaigns has been sidelined.
Green Party Councillor Adriane Carr has tabled a motion to ban donations from developers, corporations and unions.
It would have also capped donations from individuals at $5,000.
At Tuesday’s meeting, though, her fellow councillors voted to send it to be reviewed by committee and hear a report back in September.
Carr says she has little hope for that.
“I think it was just a way to stall debate on the issue, not to have council members vote on this.”
Council has voted for campaign finance reform in the past, but it has to start with the provincial government, which Carr says has been inactive.
