While several properties have already been reduced to ashes in the Puntzi Lake wildfire, one man lost his home battling blazes did so while trying to protect others.
And now the close-knit community is aiming to give back.
Geordie Ferguson works as a loader technician, supplying manpower, pumps and retardants to aircrafts fighting forest fires; and for the last eight years lived in a home on the shores of Puntzi Lake.
But that’s the keyword: Lived in a home.
Last Wednesday, while servicing planes, Ferguson found out his house was charred by the fire which has devastated several properties, leaving him with nothing but his truck, dog, and the very clothes on his back.
Now, the community is rallying behind him, with a GoFundMe page set up in his name. In just one day, it’s raised over $11-thousand dollars.
