A container ship at the Fraser Surrey Docks is temporarily out of commission — after a fire on board early yesterday morning.
The Transportation Safety Board was called out to the docks this morning to try and figure out what happened.
Docks spokesperson Jill Buchanan says the Cap Blanche will remain berthed while investigators give it a once-over.
“Transport Canada and any appropriate regulatory authority will check the vessel before it can leave berth, so it has to go through a series of tests before it’s deemed to be seaworthy.”
Buchanan says the fire started shortly after the vessel had finished unloading — by a small fuel spill in the generator room.
She says no one was hurt — and the fire was put out with minor damage to the ship.
No fuel reached the water.
