Surrey RCMP is piloting a new community outreach campaign called “Coffee with a Cop.”
Corporal Scotty Schumann says it’s a way for officers and the community to come together…
“The low level drug dealing shootings that we’ve experienced recently aren’t the only things that are on our citizen’s minds so we’re hoping they’ll come forward and tell us what their concerns are.”
The first ‘coffee with a cop’ will be in Newton where most of the city’s shootings have taken place.
“We have had a number of community forums this year and we’ve gotten some very positive feedback from our citizens on how the police are easier to contact and appear more open to feedback from the community and we’re hoping to achieve the same thing with this coffee with a cop program.”
Surrey RCMP hoping to open up the lines of communication with the public.
