A wildfire burning near Sechelt grew overnight.
“It’s now somewhere between eight and ten hectares. The Coastal Fire Centre says they’ve had ground crews, helicopters and they brought in the big air tankers as well yesterday to try to get this fire contained.”
Sean Eckford, the news director at Coast FM on the Sunshine Coast and Nanaimo, says no homes are being threatened.
“No evacuation alerts, no concerns about it. There is a cell phone tower in the area and that’s the biggest possible concern for damage to infrastructure and even then, it’s a good couple of kilometres away, so not in immediate danger.”
Another 20-hectare fire burning near Ladysmith was contained last night, but not before 12 homes in the area had to be evacuated.
