A B.C. mom is still looking for answers into the death of her toddler, who was placed in foster care — hoping for a full report from the provincial children’s watchdog.
Baby Isabella died in 2013 at a foster home in Burnaby, just shy of her second birthday.
Her biological mother, Sara Jane Wiens, says she recently met with staff working for Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, the representative for children and youth.
The B.C. coroner has ruled the girl’s cause of death was undetermined, and Wiens says that’s not good enough.
“There needs to be awareness. In order to create change, there needs to be awareness and in order for there to be awareness, people need to know why the system needs to change. What are the problems in the system? And what can we fix?”
Wiens is also pursuing a lawsuit against the government.
Turpel-Lafond’s office does caution: only a fraction of the cases they consider move on to a full inquiry stage.
