Federal Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has unveiled his plans for the environment, should he be elected prime minister this fall.
Speaking at Jericho Beach in Vancouver where he learned to sail as a child, Trudeau says he will end subsidies for fossil fuel companies, protecting more wildlife habitats and putting a price on carbon.
He insists his plans won’t hurt the economy.
“The environment and the economy. They go together. They go together like paddles and canoes. If you don’t take care of both, you’re never going to get where you’re going. Because you can’t have a strong economy without a healthy environment.”
Trudeau also renewed a promise to re-open the Coast Guard base at Kits Point.
