BC Hydro is reporting a spike in its overall “peak hourly demand” after the weekend heat wave.
That’s the hour the utility saw the highest demand across province.
Spokesperson Simi Heer says Hydro saw a 15-per-cent jump on Saturday and a 10-per-cent jump on Sunday.
“We’re expecting that trend to continue throughout the week, as temperatures remain high province-wide.”
Heer says you can beat the heat without taking a big hit on your electricity bill.
She suggests keeping blinds drawn, using a ceiling fan, or cooking on the barbecue instead of in the kitchen.
And the good news: Even with an increase in demand, we’re nowhere close to the levels of electricity used during the winter months.
