The City of Vancouver already helps people rent in his current red-hot housing market, but should it help people buy affordable housing.
City Councillor Melissa De Genova thinks so and she’s put forth a motion to have staff look at ways of doing that.
“We have lots of programs, including the rental 100 program, which focuses on affordable rental. But, when people decide they want to get in to the housing market and purchase a condominium or a home, they have little to no options because the city is subsidizing rental.”
De Genova says this affects seniors, families, but mainly millenials and the city of Vancouver needs to see projects based around buying affordable housing.
